Even in Latvia preservation of storytelling traditions in the rapidly rushing age of technologies and marketing faces ever new challenges with every coming year, as the terms ‘story’ and ‘storyteller’ are used in many and different contexts, sometimes emphasising the connection of the terms to actual trends or some marketing activities with their special impact on the potential customers.

In order to support qualitative inheritance of storytelling traditions in the Latvian culture space, preserving the inherited oral form as far as possible along with the message and emphasising the dynamics of the tradition in the modern environment, at the first conference of Latvian storytellers (2016) the idea of the Latvian Storytellers Association was developed.

The basic idea behind the Association is to become a coordinative and consultative institution working with the storytelling tradition, in order to ensure balanced preservation of the storytelling traditions, their recognisability and their implementation in the society, along with the collaboration of both the individuals maintaining and those having inherited them, organising their informal education, mutual exchange of experience and knowledge as in Latvia, so internationally.

The Association is open, and any individual storyteller or institution can join it, submitting a written motivation letter and describing the possible contribution towards storytelling tradition!
